Some of Rückhäberle's thickly painted pictures look as if they grew out of life drawing class, but in general his work has a cartoonish, folklike quality and, with its alternately muted and acrid colors, a mysterious, bittersweet mood. Imagine a youthful wedding of Max Beckmann [...].
