Text

David Roeder is a painter among other things, and can now be found living and working in Berlin. Trialled and tested in Leipzig and Glasgow, his paintings and drawings travel scale and form and tread psychic bounds. Throwing into abstraction an index of familiar objects, the timbre of mood - rightly, chaos and cosmos - and the figure as both habitual and guised, Roeder delves into the plasticities and dissolution of the everyday. Roeder’s parallel writing practice plays out as internal and eternally questioning monologues, and ficto-materialisations of quotidian scenes. Since 2014 Roeder has run Verdrusz Books, an occasional imprint publishing visual art and writing by the artist and his peers, he also runs workshops and produces projects with people with additional support needs. His other love among many loves is music, which he makes with his friends, and sometimes on his own. (Jessica Higgins)
