Benjamin Dittrich is a visual artist from Leipzig, Germany. His work is inspired by vintage scientific texts and diagrams. Like an archeologist, Dittrich rearranges elements of these found materials to create colorful paintings and prints, transforming static data into dynamic visual narratives.
The careful, but playful assembly of Dittrich’s pieces encourage viewers to experience the finished works as a reinterpretation of the found materials. Instead of analyzing each fragment of text or diagram for their individual meanings, viewers are invited to invent new connections of their own.
Within his work, Dittrich blends science with intuition and the industrial with the natural world. The amalgamation of seemingly disparate elements disrupts the viewers’ desire for objective meaning and order.
When viewers cast aside objectivity, they are liberated to imagine and explore. In Dittrich’s work, wonder and innocence are the keys to unlocking a new universe.
